Small reptiles and amphibians
Rescued and captive-bred animals in proper homes. None are on hand yet.
Welfare comes first
Animals arrive last, after their habitats, a reptile veterinarian and a written care plan. Welfare always wins.
Where animals come from
Rescues, surrenders and captive breeding only. Never wild-caught. No venomous species, and no warm-blooded animals at the start. No animals are at the center yet.
- Examples considered: leopard geckos, corn snakes, a rescued turtle, tree frogs and axolotls.
- The veterinarian and the permits set the final list.
Never released
Released pets can spread disease to wild animals. If the center can't keep an animal, it goes to a qualified rescue or sanctuary.
Good homes
Species-sized habitats with the right heat, light, humidity and hiding places. Quiet rest areas, and backup power for heat.
Healthy visits
A handwashing sink by every touch area. Following CDC advice, children under 5 look instead of touch.
Permits, to confirm
